Kindergarten I — OverviewIn our Kindergarten I program, all children will be immersed in an academically challenging, yet developmentally appropriate, learning environment designed especially for 4 year olds turning 5 and young 5 year olds. The class size will be limited to 15 children and taught by a New Jersey State Certified teacher and an instructional aide. The curriculum will lay the foundation for the academic and social demands of the Kindergarten II program. Our academic Kindergarten I program will include the instruction of writing, phonics, reading readiness, phonemic awareness, math, science and social studies. Using manipulatives, investigating by experimenting and showing understanding through creative expression will be integrated in the academic program. This will give all children the time they need to fully acquire these skills in the correct way. In the full-day Kindergarten I program the children will also have music, art, physical education, computers and instruction in a foreign language. In addition, the students enrolled in our full-day Kindergarten I program will participate in our other enrichment programs including our Intergenerational Program (an integration of older adults with our children engaged in gardening, crafts, weaving and other activities) and our Conflict Resolution/Anti-Bullying program. In a sentence, the Kindergarten I experience will provide all children with the first step into a lifetime of joyful learning.
