Happy May everyone!! Our theme this month is Transportation!  Here is what we'll be up to...

 Literacy

The lower case letters that we will be focusing on this month are: i,j,k,l,m,n,o,p, q and r.  Our alphabet books are looking fabulous and we can't wait to add these next letter projects to it.  We will also be continuing to work on our letter sounds.  We'll be playing alphabet BINGO, musical letters and alphabet ball to practice!  Our story journals are also becoming filled with some pretty creative illustrations and stories!  We are absolutely LOVING the author's chair where we get to share our latest journal entry.  In fact, we're enjoying it so much that several of our little authors have been writing and illustrating other stories to share during their free station time! Smile

Math

This month we will be working on the following skills: measurement, patterning, counting, number recognition and number writing.  Since our theme this month is transportation, we will be working on number recognition, counting and patterning by playing fun transportation games.  We'll also be practicing writing our numbers with wiki sticks, shaving cream and our number poems.  We will work on number recognition by using our felt board numbers, playing our clothespin matching game and our tweezers game.  As for measurement, we will be having lots of fun measuring ourselves with blocks and our wonderful giraff chart.

Science

Our unit of study this month is transportation.  We will be learning the meaning of transportation as well as many different forms of transportation.  We'll begin our study by sorting land, sky and water transportation.  We also have many fun experiments to do as well!  We'll be making cars move using magnets, making our very own hot air balloons, flying parachutes, playing sink or float and floating boats we create ourselves.

Social Studies

I will be setting up a mini department of motor vehicles where the children will have the opportunity to obtain their very own preschool licenses.  They will be taking an eye exam and even a "drivers test"!  Once they have passed, they will get their picture taken and obtain their license.  Watch out drivers!  The preschoolers are on their way!!Wink  I will also be setting up a travel agency where children will get the chance to look over different travel brochures and decide where they would like to travel.  Once they have chosen their destination, they will sit down with their travel agent (me), and discuss the method of transportation and all the details of their trip!  Speaking of traveling, we will also be taking a pretend flight on a pretend airplane.  Each child will have a seat in the cabin.  We'll describe our surroundings, go over airplane safety and even order cabin snacks!! YUM!

Welcome to Preschool Avery!  We are very happy you are here!
