Judy Serra
Head of School/ Kindergarten II TeacherJudy Serra has been teaching for 20+ years. Judy Serra is a highly qualified and NJ certified teacher. She graduated from Cabrini College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education/ Elementary Education. She began her teaching career in Hillsborough Township Schools where she taught Kindergarten for 10 years. After that, she taught first grade at Whitehouse Elementary School for 3 years and then taught kindergarten for 7 years. Meet the rest of our staff:Helen Martin - Music Teacher
Helen Martin grew up in Philadelphia where she studied with Jasha Brodsky at the New School and Jani Szanto at the Philadelphia Musical Academy. She continued her studies at The Eastman School of Music and Indiana University in Bloomington, where she joined the class of Josef Gingold.
Helen Martin's performance repertoire includes solo as well as ensemble works, but teaching is her primary focus. She has worked with students in both public and private schools as well as in conservatories here in the U.S. and in London (UK). She taught String Techniques at Moravian College and was Head of the String Department at the Community Music School in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Martin's teaching based on the respected research of Edwin Gordon - highlights the language aspects of music while building a balanced, flexible technique.
Helen Martin's Conservatory schedule includes individual and class teaching. "I am especially pleased to be offering classes for beginning violinists. The group setting is the best way to introduce music. Children learn from each other and they also develop leadership skills." Samantha Kerr - Kindergarten 1 Teacher
Samantha is a graduate of Rider University graduating Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education. While at Rider, Samantha was awarded the Certificate for Excellence in Early Childhood Education for her outstanding GPA and performance in the field of early childhood education. She was also the recipient of the Professional Development Award given by the Rider Education Department as well as a four time recipient of the Rider Presidential Scholarship. Samantha has experience teaching pre-school through third grade in several local public and private schools. And beyond her stellar academic performance and experience, Samantha is very enthusiastic about teaching and loves to be around children. Like all of our students, Samantha has a brilliant future and we are fortunate to have her as part of our school!Dustin Ballard - Acting & Performance
Dustin Ballard is a teaching artist for the George Street Playhouse. As an actor, Dustin was the 2009 Region II Winner and National Finalist of the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship, nominated for his performance as Gail in Our Lady of 121st Street on the Kean University Mainstage. He has performed with many theatre companies in the area including Premiere Stages, Classics on Tour, Playwrights Theatre of New Jersey, Westco Productions, and on the Kean University stage where he received a B.F.A. in Theatre Performance. His favorite roles include Tybalt/Friar Lawrence in Romeo and Juliet, Mr. Cladwell in Urinetown, The Play King in Hamlet, and the Headwaiter in She Loves Me. As a teaching artist, he has worked with George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick, WINGS Performing Arts in South Mississippi, Hands-On Broadway in New York and Kean University’s Sumer Musical Theatre Intensive. With George Street, he directed the summer hit Captain Louie Jr. and with WINGS, he directed the productions of The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, Disney’s 101 Dalmatians Kids!, and Alice and Wonderland. He is a founding member of Live LIVE!, a New Jersey based theatre company and continues his study at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York.
Anthony Serra - President
Anthony Serra, along with his wife Judith, is co- founder of Whitehouse Preparatory School. He is an attorney and mediator by profession, the School's coordinator of its Conflict Resolution and Anti-Bullying Program as well as the Mini-Court Presentation. He is also the facilitator of the School's Intergenerational and Community Outreach Programs.
Mr. Serra received his law degree from Seton Hall University School of Law, graduating Magna Cum Laude, and is a graduate of Drew University. Mr. Serra is also on the Board of Education at Hunterdon Central Regional High School and is active in many non-profit and civic organizations throughout Central New Jersey. Jennifer Gonzalez - Preschool Teacher
Jen is a graduate of William Paterson University with a degree in Early Childhood Education and a Bachelor’s in Psychology. While at William Paterson, she was placed on the Dean’s List. Jen has experience teaching pre-school in both public and private schools. She completed both her Practicum and Student Teaching in pre-school classrooms and she has had experience teaching three year olds. Teaching in the early childhood field is Jen’s passion and always has been. She is very excited to share her love for learning with the children and staff at Whitehouse Prep! Katy Young - Chinese Teacher
Katy is a graduate student at Rutger’s University. She is currently working on her Masters in Education in Foreign Language. Katy has worked at the Wang Chang Yuan Zueng Art Center. She has also worked under the mentorship of Yuti Hsu at Far Hills Country Day School in their Chinese program. Katy holds a B.A. in Economics from Rutgers University. She is very excited to be teaching a Chinese immersion program at Whitehouse Preparatory School.Stacey Granat - After School Lead Teacher
Stacey is a graduate of The College of New Jersey. She graduated with Bachelor’s degrees in Early Childhood Education and Spanish. While attending The College of New Jersey, she was placed on the Dean’s List. Stacey has experience working with children of all ages. She completed her Student Teaching in a first grade classroom and spent time in many K-3 classrooms during her college experience. She has also spent the past three summers working with four year old boys and girls at her summer camp. Stacey has wanted to be a teacher since she was six years old and is excited to be teaching at Whitehouse Preparatory School!Kelly Kai-Ting Kao - Chinese/After School Teacher
Kelly Kai-Ting Kao was born in Taiwan and graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Education from Montclair State University . During the summer of 2008, she went back to Taiwan to be trained in teaching Chinese grammar at National Taipei Educated University. She is currently a graduate student in Rutgers University’s M.A.T in Chinese Program. Kai-ting attended the TCSOL program at Columbia University where she worked with young children and obtained a certificate of eligibility. She is excited to be implementing new and exciting learning techniques with the children at Whitehouse Preparatory School. She believes that bilingualism helps to build a bridge in communication and understanding and she is excited to be sharing her native language and culture with the children at Whitehouse Preparatory School.Lianne Heteji - Teacher
Lianne received her Accelerated Certification for Teaching in Preschool to Third Grade from the College of St. Elizabeth in addition to graduating from Kean University with a B.A. in Sociology and Early Childhood Education. Lianne’s professional teaching experience includes 5+ years for the Warren Township Board of Education, over six years as a Teacher for the 3-5 age group at the YMCA Daycare in Livingston. Her excitement, experience and warmth is a wonderful fit at Whitehouse Prep and we are delighted to have her passion and dedication to teaching enhance our school! |
